Meisterschwanden, Mixed Use

TYPE: Institutional, Portfolio
Energy cost savings p.A: 21%
CO₂ Reduction p.a: 17,000 kg
Installed solar capacity: 300 kWp

This mixed-use village centre in Meisterschwanden shows how commercial premises, residential buildings and municipal properties can be brought together within one local energy system. The project connects Walter Bros., the municipality of Meisterschwanden and private property owners. Within this framework, enshift combines rooftop photovoltaics, battery storage and two different electricity-supply models.

The village centre combines residential, commercial and municipal uses, each with its own electricity profile. Coordinating photovoltaics, battery storage, a PPA and a vZEV makes it possible to manage these differences within one system. Within the project, enshift is responsible for coordinating the technical and commercial elements. The result is a local energy solution that connects different buildings and owners while increasing the direct use of solar electricity.

Battery System

Two battery systems add flexibility to the project. Together, they provide more than 110 kW of charging and discharging power and over 220 kWh of storage capacity.

The batteries absorb surplus solar electricity and make it available again when production falls or demand rises. They can also help reduce short-term peaks in grid consumption.

The systems use high-voltage lithium iron phosphate technology. An integrated battery-management system monitors the state of charge, voltage, current and temperature. The modular design also allows the storage systems to be adapted to the technical conditions of the individual buildings.

Solar system

The photovoltaic installations use the available rooftop areas to generate electricity directly where it is needed. With an installed capacity of approximately 299 kWp, they are expected to produce around 329,000 kWh of renewable electricity each year.

Part of this electricity supplies the Coop supermarket. The remaining participating buildings benefit through the vZEV. Instead of feeding all production into the public grid, a significant share can therefore be consumed within the village centre itself.
